Hang around the moustached guy in jorts at your local bike shop long enough and you’ll hear the saying: “Steel is real.”. As much as I love my sporty carbon bikes, I tend to agree. Steel bends when other materials break.
When my friends and I needed cargo cages for our bike trip, I gave myself a challenge, make a cage from steel that's every bit as light as one made from aluminum. After a couple iterations and some serious testing, I think we achieved that goal.
Proudly made in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Mounting Flexibility
Because every situation is different, we’ve built in flexibility:
- Multiple mounting positions — works even with off-center or misaligned bottle mounts
- Removable stainless-steel foot — height-adjustable to fit any bag, pack, or beer can. Leave it off for an ultra-light setup.
What’s in the box?
- 1 × Stainless Steel Cargo Cage
- 1 × Height-adjustable stainless-steel foot
- 3 × Stainless M5 mounting bolts
- 3 × TPU spacers
(Straps, bags, and butternut squash not included.)
Weight
- Without foot: 52 g
- With foot: 85 g
Made in Canada
How much weight can it handle?
It's been tested up to 3 kg (6.6 lb), which is enough to carry a 64 oz Nalgene or a two-litre soda bottle. However, it's important to consider the load limitations of your bike—especially if it has a carbon fork. If you're unsure, consult your bike's manual or contact the manufacturer directly.
How do you recommend attaching things?
Voile Straps are my go-to, Austere Straps are another popular option. For bags, a simple dry bag works great. If you need something more durable, plenty of brands offer fork-specific bags. The one in our photos is from Decathlon.
Will this fit my bike?
The cage is designed to fit standard 64 mm two or three-hole water bottle mounts. If you have those anywhere on your bike, you're good to go!
